Exhibitors win big at summer shows

Local youth kept busy over the summer exhibiting livestock projects at a variety of prospect shows, bringing home some big prizes.
Kenzie Neve had the busiest summer, taking steers to five events.
Colter Edgar had just one very productive outing June 24 at the Eighter From Decatur, exhibiting the champion Yorkshire as well as taking second place in different classes with a Berkshire, Chester, and spotted cross.
“We were supposed go to a couple more, but we just tried to be gentle on our animals this summer,” Chris Edgar said. “The heat’s been brutal.”
At the Texas Youth Expo, held in May in Brenham, Neve finished third overall Limousin, placing first in the class. She also had a first place black cross and finished in the top 10 in showmanship.
At the Milam County Weekend Blowout, held Memorial Day weekend at Cameron, Neve was tabbed Champion Senior Cattle Showman. In Ring A, she had the champion Shorthorn and the champion Limousin, both of which placed first in their class, as well as a second place Simmental. In Ring B, she claimed reserve Shorthorn, placing first in class, along with a first place Limousin and a second place Simmental.
At Battle of the Cattle, held June 29-July 2 at Belton, Neve had a fourth-place Shorthorn, fifth-place yellow cross and fifth place black cross.
Hattie Braly also showed at Belton, placing with a pair of exotic cross steers. Braly was part of a group that won the stall-decorating contest with a Fiesta theme.
At the Cattlelac Jackpot, held July 8 at Navasota, Neve was again named Champion Senior Showman. She had the champion Maine-Anjou and reserve Shorthorn in both Ring A and Ring B, placing first in the class all four times.
At the Lone Star Classic Steer Show, held July 9-10 at Gonzales, Neve was the third overall senior showman. In Ring A, she exhibited the champion Shorthorn, which placed first in its class, and a first place black cross. In Ring B, she had the reserve Shorthorn and reserve black cross, placing first in both classes.
Albany newcomer Bradee Stautzenberger had a reserve breed champion at a jackpot show in McKinney.
Stautzenberger earned the goat showmanship award at the Coleman County show last winter.
