Event raises missions funding

Friendship Baptist Church members held their fourth annual Harvest Acres on Saturday, Nov. 23.

“The baked goods flew off the table pretty much as soon as they were set down,” said church member Danita Johnston. “We had a steady stream of people all morning, served dozens of pulled pork sandwiches for lunch, and then finished the day with stew and chili made with love by the ladies in our church.”

She added that more than $3,000 was raised for the account that provides funds for local mission projects and needs.

“Even though Harvest Acres was initially intended as an event to raise funds for local missions, it has turned into one of the church’s favorite days as well,” said member Danita Johnston. “The fellowship and visiting with people is always the highlight.”

The most popular auction items were a 1940s signature friendship quilt donated by Joyce Tabor, two Christmas wreaths made by Susan Morrison, a horseshoe Christmas tree donated by Joe and Janna Ledbetter and a quilt donated by Jackie Riley. Handmade tables and benches by Paul Johnston and a barrel chair made by John Hendley were also part of the silent auction items.

“There were many smaller handmade craft items that sold well also,” said Danita Johnston.

She expressed the Friendship congregation’s appreciation to members of the community who continue to support the church’s mission work.
