A total of 34 teams were entered in AZE’s third annual Scholarship Cornhole Tournament last Saturday, with cash prizes handed out to the top three two-person teams in three different divisions.

In addition to the players themselves, there were quite a few spectators and people taking advantage of the three food trucks on site.

“It was a beautiful day, and we had a lot of fun,” said AZE officer Megaen Birdwell. “The tournament was well attended and possibly our most successful so far.”

She added that live music and food trucks were good additions to the event.

Fellow sorority member Mary Boland, who helped coordinate the tournament, was also pleased with the turnout. She said that prizes for the winners ranged from $20 for third place winners in the “Blind Draw” category to $160 for each first place winner in the Open Division.

She commented that some of the participants didn’t provide their complete names, but results are listed below.

Alex Guzman and Joe Guzman were declared the top winners of the Open Division after several hours of play in the street adjacent to the Bank Park.

D’Andrey Silva and Albert Silva were second, and Gene Hearne and Freddy R. were third.

In the “Social Division” for less serious players, David D. and James Mendez were first, Andrew Tellez and Billy Norman second, and Armando Salazar and Zach Childress third.

Fourteen of the teams were in a “Blind Draw” category where participants were entered into a system, and a computer paired the teams.

Freddy and Steve were first, Curtis and Jaime second, and Mario and David third.

There was a raffle for a 65-inch TV, won by Francisco Salazar, as well as a “Money Train,” which went to David D.
