Entries needed for local parade

Albany News

Fandangle Parade co-chair John Ayers has already had a few out-of-town groups call to confirm that they will be in the parade this year, and he is hoping to get quite a few locals signed up as well.

“I’m always looking for a lot of local participants,” said Ayers. “One of the things that I am specifically looking for this year is a group or organization to sponsor the large Beehive float. We have all the props, but it takes a vehicle and a large trailer.”

Ayers added that he can even help find a trailer if needed.

The Fandangle has various props that can be borrowed for the parade, and groups or families are encouraged to contact Ayers if they need ideas for a float or other Fandangle Parade entry.

Judges

Ayers said that he has five judges lined up, and he is confirming schedules with a couple of others this week.

Four of last year’s judges agreed to return this year.

Parade Schedule

This year’s parade is set for 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, in downtown Albany, and entries should start lining up at 4:30 p.m. on the streets near the grade school.

“We need to have time to get everyone in place, so we can start at 5:00,” Ayers said.

Ragan Riley and Shannon Leech are also serving as Fandangle Parade co-chairs this year.

Entry in the parade is free, and prizes will be awarded to winners in several categories.

Registration forms are available at the Fandangle office, or by calling parade co-chair Ragan Riley at 214-663-3271.
