Members of the local FFA and 4-H organizations are gearing up for the fall exhibition season.

Entry deadlines for the major fall shows are coming up with Shackelford County students planning to exhibit a number of animals.

Deadline for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo, which is scheduled for  Sept. 9-18, has already passed, but students can still make plans for other shows.

Deadline to enter the State Fair of Texas in Dallas, set for Sept. 21-Oct. 17, is Aug. 20.

Deadline for the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo in Waco, scheduled for Oct. 1-17, is Sept. 7.

“Exhibitors who plan to show at Dallas and Waco need to make sure their ‘Quality Counts’ numbers are up to date,” Albany High School agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor Chris Beard said. “If the exhibitor is not sure, please contact me.”

Calf Scramble

Entries are being accepted for the West Texas Fair and Rodeo Calf Scramble.

The traditional scramble is scheduled for Sept. 11 with the scholarship scramble on Sept. 16. Both scrambles will take place during the PRCA rodeo in Taylor Telecom Area.

The event is open to 4-H or FFA members in Taylor, Nolan, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Callahan, Coleman, Runnels, and Coke Counties.

Participants must be 13 or older on or before Sept. 30.
