The Shackelford County Hospital District board of directors met for a relatively brief session on Monday, Dec. 19, primarily taking care of approving bills, but also going over a few other items of business.

EMS director Mateo Millan proposed revising the employee handbook to change the wording from “can ask” to “can order” when a supervisor feels that drug screening of an employee is warranted.

Millan also suggested random drug testing of employees throughout the year, and board member Mike Folsom added that hair follicle tests could be utilized when deemed needed by the supervisor.

The directors passed a motion to approve the recommendations.

District secretary Regina Whitt explained what she had learned in a recent class about creating an indigent fund bank account, but several directors felt that such an account might not be the best way to handle the indigent billing.

Hospital district administrator Brandi Green will check with the nurse practitioners about seeing inmates at the clinic.

The item will be be discussed again at the January meeting on Jan. 23.
