Albany News

Albany Junior High and Nancy Smith Elementary students are competing in a number of UIL academic events this week, culminating on Tuesday, Dec. 7 when all contests must be completed.

Each of the participating schools in the district are mostly conducting contests locally, with each school scoring their own contestants when possible and sending the totals to be tallied by Tuesday.

The remote format was implemented last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, with schools continuing the process this year out of caution.

The one exception has been the speaking events at elementary level. Students participating in those contests traveled to Stamford on Tuesday this week to compete in person.

The writing events were conducted prior to the Thanksgiving break and sent to the district school acting as host of the meet

Albany is serving as the host or chair of both the elementary meet and junior high meet, which includes grades 6-8.

Speaking events at the junior high level for grades six through eight are being recorded and sent to be judged.

Schools will be emailed when the results for all the contests are complete and have been judged.
