From the Editor’s Desk: A New Era for The Albany News

This week marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new one for The Albany News.

As I shared in the paper a few weeks ago, the printing facility in Lubbock is shutting down. The news came as a surprise, even to the team up there. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal is moving its printing operations to Juárez, Mexico. While there was an option to move our printing there as well, it did not feel like the right fit for our paper.

The Lubbock crew has printed The Albany News for many years, and I want to thank them for their outstanding work. Week after week, they made sure the paper looked sharp and professional, and we are grateful for the care they have shown our publication. I wish their team the very best as they look ahead to their next chapters.

This week’s edition will be the last printed in Lubbock. Starting next week, our printing operations will move to Dallas, where we will be working with Midway Press. After contacting printers all over the state and even beyond, I believe Midway is the best fit for us. I will be traveling to their plant on Friday to meet the team and begin the process.

Midway Press is a commercial printing company with more than 40 years of experience serving newspapers across Texas and beyond. Based in Dallas, they are known for their high-quality offset printing, dedicated customer service, and dependable turnaround. They work with publications of all sizes and have built a strong reputation as a trusted partner in the industry. I believe The Albany News will be in very good hands as we begin this new chapter with them.

You may notice a few changes in the paper as we enter this new phase, but the heart of The Albany News remains the same. I am genuinely excited about this new partnership with Midway Press and what it means for the future of our paper. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you enjoy the paper each week and feel the same pride in it that we do.
