Easter Bunny to make appearance
By Donnie A. Lucas
Easter events will be featured throughout the day on Saturday, including the annual egg hunt at Webb City Park, the Easter Bunny posing with kids for pictures downtown, and a “Spring Fling” of kids activities at the Bank Park.
The day will start with an egg hunt at City Park starting at 11:00 a.m. hosted by the Albany Volunteer Fire Department.
The Easter Bunny will be hopping around in front of First National Bank from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. to visit with children and hand out Easter candy.
A special Easter backdrop will be provided and parents can take photos of their children with the Easter Bunny.
An Easter Spring Fling featuring kids game will start at 3:00 p.m. at the Bank Park as a way to add some fun and “shenanigans” for area residents over the Easter weekend.
The Shackelford County Easter Spring Fling will feature goat roping, rookie breakaway for ages 12 and under, and team roping for all ages.
While having the names of traditional horse riding events, all of these contests will be held on foot.
There will also be a “Duck Cutting” contest for children age five and younger, although as of Tuesday, only two more spots were available.
The entry fee is $10 for each event, with all of the proceeds going to the winners.
“This is something for everyone of all ages,” organizer Heather Nitschke said. “We just want people to come and have fun.”
Nitschke said that there are already several entries, but participants can sign up on the spot.
“Please bring cash for the entry fees so we can divide it back out to the winners,” She said. “We would love to have people pre-enter, but they can sign up on the day of the event.”
The local 4-H club is arranging for music at the event, with The Hinshaws playing at 5:00 p.m. and Jeff Martin beginning a two-hour set at 6:00 p.m.
The FFA chapter will be providing the goats for the roping, and EZ Feed is sponsoring the rental of livestock panels to create the roping arena.
There will be food trucks available serving Mexican food and barbecue, according to Nitschke.
Entrants will need to provide their own ropes, while spectators will need to bring camp chairs for seating.
“We are hoping that a lot of people will come join in the fun,” she said.
