Early voting starts Tuesday

By Melinda L. Lucas

In-person early voting for the May 3 elections for Shackelford County Hospital District (SCHD) and Albany Independent School District, as well as for the Moran Independent School District, begins next week on Tuesday, April 22 and continues through April 29.

Early voting for the SCHD and AISD takes place in the conference of the SCHD-EMS Station at 840 Gregg Street, according to hospital district secretary Regina Whitt, who is coordinating the election along with AISD administrative assistant Lynsi Musselman. Joining them will be veteran election workers Ann King and Dee Balliew, who will conduct the early voting and the election on May 3.

On April 22, 23, 25, 28, and 29, early voters can come to the EMS station from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Extended voting is available on Thursday, April 24 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Moran ISD election will be conducted in the Moran school auditorium (900 Main St. in Moran), from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day on April 22-25 and again April 28-29.

The regular election day will be 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at the Moran ISD Event Center at 517 Herron Street for the MISD election and at the EMS Station in Albany for the SCHD and AISD elections.

Candidates

Hospital board candidates are incumbent Jo Ann Estridge, and newcomers Jed Cottle, Ami Davis, Karin Cox, Anita Jackson, and Aaron Frohn, on the ballot for three at-large seats with two-year terms. Mike Folsom is uncontested for a one-year unexpired term.

Teagan Brown and John Gallagher filed for Place 7 on the Albany ISD’s board of trustees. Matt Bellah and Joe Tidwell are uncontested for places 5 and 6.

Moran ISD’s election will decide between three candidates for two seats – incumbents Alice Branham and Sam Snyder, along with Chris Leonard. Jason Price will also be on the Moran ISD ballot as the sole candidate for a two-year unexpired term.

The other three entities in the county, including the City of Albany, City of Moran, and Fort Griffin SUD, have cancelled their elections because there are no contested races.
