By Donnie A. Lucas
Early voting for the Nov. 8 General Election that includes federal, state, and county offices starts Monday, Oct. 24 at the Shackelford County Courthouse.
In-person early voting will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday for a two-week period that ends Friday, Nov. 4.
Those who vote in person, either during early voting or on Election Day, will need to present a picture ID, along with their current voter registration card if possible.
Voters will first be asked to sign in and present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo ID.
All early voting will be held on the first floor of the courthouse.
Voters should be aware that the courthouse parking lot is under construction. Visitors must park on either the north or east side and enter the north handicapped accessible door or the door on the east side of the building. The west door facing Main Street is locked for security reasons and can not be accessed.
Any registered voter is eligible to participate in early voting.
Mail-In Ballots
Mail-in ballots can also be requested, but there are deadlines that must be followed.
The last day to request a mail ballot, either by phone or mail, is Friday, Oct. 28. If the request is mailed, it must be received, not just postmarked, by the deadline in the clerk’s office.
Requests can also be emailed to cheri.hawkins@shackelfordcounty.org, but must also be received by the deadline.
To request a mail ballot by phone, call the clerk’s office at 325-762-9415.
Voters who have requested an annual ballot, which means one will be mailed out for all county operated elections during a specific calendar year, do not need to send another request. Annual ballots must be applied for each calendar year.
Voters can find a printable application for a mail-in ballot by choosing the “Elections” tab or button on the county website at www.shackelfordcounty.org.
When the application is completed and signed, it can be delivered in person or sent to Cheri Hawkins, C/D Clerk Shackelford County, PO Box 2109, Albany, TX 76430 by the Oct. 28 deadline.
The General Election on Nov. 8 will be held in the Courthouse for voting precincts 101, 202, 307, and 406. Precinct 303 voting will be held in the at the Moran Community Center in Moran, while Precinct 404 will vote at the Precinct 4 Barn in Lueders.
Precinct 405 ballots will be available at the Rockhill County Building in Hamby on County Road 155.
