Early deadlines set next week

Albany News

Early deadlines have been set for the next two issues of The Albany News.

All news items and advertising for next Thursday’s July 4 issue will be due at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 1 rather than the usual Tuesday noon before publication.

According to News editor Melinda Lucas, the deadline has been moved up because the paper needs to be taken to the post office on Wednesday in time to be posted before the postal staff leaves for the Fourth of July holiday.

She asked that customers who want an ad or article make sure they get them in by noon on Monday or before.

Vacation Deadline

In addition, the News staff has to prepare two issues simultaneously during the next week before leaving for vacation, so an early deadline has been set for the following week’s issue of The Albany News.

All news items and advertising for the July 11 issue will be due at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, July 3, almost a week ahead of the usual schedule.

“We have to have both papers completely finished,” said Lucas. “We hope that this isn’t a big inconvenience for our customers.”

According to News publisher Donnie Lucas, the deadline has been moved up in order for members of the staff to take a week of vacation on July 7-13. The paper will be completed the previous week, but will be mailed and on newsstands at the usual time on Thursday, July 11.

“We discovered that we could actually take a whole week off if we put out two papers the week before we plan to be gone,” he explained.

The front office at the newspaper will still be open for business as usual during the week of July 8 in order to service office supply, laundry, and UPS customers, along with printing and other newspaper-related business.
