The downtown merchants will host their annual trick-or-treat event on Halloween, and since there is not a city-wide Trunk or Treat event planned this year, they have invited others who wish to hand out candy to join them.

“The Chamber would like to invite anyone who wants to hand out candy to line the sidewalks downtown and at the Bank Park from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. on Halloween,” said Chamber of Commerce manager Mary Beth Jones. “You can dress up or just be you to spread the cheer.”

Children can visit participating stores from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 with merchants providing candy and treats.

“Candy will also be handed out at Kindred and First Financial Bank,” said Jones. “And everyone who wants to set up downtown or at the Bank Park, come on. We’d love to have you.”

Store owners hold the annual event to offer a safe place for local students and pre-schoolers to make their Halloween rounds.

The Courthouse will not be taking part this year because of early voting, according to county judge Robert Skelton.

Early voting for the upcoming Nov. 5 election will be taking place in the first floor of the Courthouse during the event.
