Albany downtown will be filled with ghosts and goblins on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, as local merchants, along with others interested in setting up on the sidewalk, hand out Halloween candy.

The trick-or-treat event is scheduled from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. in the downtown business blocks.

Besides local downtown merchants, anyone else interested in setting up a table on the sidewalk between businesses is welcome to do so, according to Chamber of Commerce manager Mary Beth Jones.

Jones added that the event is ending this year at 4:30 p.m. so local children can attend the Fall Fest sponsored by the PTO. The Fall Fest, being held at the elementary school campus, starts at 5:00 p.m.

Some businesses normally open only on weekdays may not participate this year since the event falls on a Saturday.

“We would be glad to have other organizations or individuals join us,” Jones said. “You can dress up or just be yourself.”

The Chamber is also hosting the first-ever Home of the Hereford BBQ Cookoff and Corn Hole Tournament on Oct. 23. The event was originally set for Oct. 1-2 but was postponed due to weather.

Chamber members will be decorating the downtown area and along Main Street for Christmas on Saturday, Nov. 20 in preparation for the annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Nov. 27. Merchants will also be participating in the National Small Business Saturday held the day after Black Friday.

The next Chamber board meeting is on Nov. 2 at the Stasney Cook Ranch.
