Directors discuss schedule change

Members of the Shackelford County Hospital District’s board of directors spent quite a bit of their meeting on Monday night discussing ways that the EMS schedule might be changed to better benefit part-time EMTs, who currently may only get “on-call” time while fulfilling their obligation to the district for school assistance.

After looking at the possibility of appointing a special committee, the directors eventually decided that EMS supervisor Mary Quintero should work on some scheduling options and bring recommendations in December.

Also approved after closed sessions in both the district and clinic portions of the meeting were Christmas bonuses for all employees.

New Ambulance

Quintero and district administrator Jera Fairley told board members that the new ambulance is on site but will not be put into service until discrepancies with the title and license information are corrected.

Fairley expects to have the issues cleared up soon.

Other Business

•Advanced EMT Wanda Skiles asked if the district could help her obtain her paramedic certification, and the board plans to vote on that next month along with looking at a new education agreement.

•Steven Hobbs asked the district to match RAC funds to purchase a simulator for training purposes. It was approved if $3,700 is available in the budget.
