Digging in the Dirt

The Albany community garden has been tilled and is ready for planting, according to organizer Ramby Anderson.

“We’ve had a little bit of a challenge getting started with the rain this year,” said Anderson. “We’ve gotten most of the tilling done and are starting to get plants in the ground.”

Anderson said onions were planted about three weeks ago and he plans to get tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and okra in the ground this week.

The garden space behind King & Robertson Insurance on Main Street is open to the public, and potential gardeners are encouraged to buy locally when planning their garden plot.

“We really like it when people purchase their plants or seeds from a local business,” said Anderson. “We also like for people to be able to grow enough produce to be able to give away the extra vegetables to people in need.”

Residents who are interested in planting their own plots can contact Anderson at 325-762-2288.
