Albany graduate Addie Beth Denton competed in the American Junior Rodeo Association Finals the past week in Sweetwater, the last time she will compete as a high school student.

Denton competed in breakaway roping, goat tying, and barrel racing.

After catching all three calves, Denton was crowned the Champion Breakaway Roper.

Placings for breakaway roping include third in the first round, sixth in the second round, and second in the short go.

Denton also participated in a scholarship interview process and was awarded a $1,000 John Rae Powell Memorial Scholarship.

Earlier in the summer, Denton competed in three events at the Texas State FFA Rodeo.

Denton’s events were breakaway roping, barrells, and goat tying. She was the only participant who made it to the finals in all events entered.

The Albany High School graduate received third in breakaway roping, fifth in goat tying, and seventh in barrels.

According to Denton, she is eager to begin the next chapter of her life and will treasure the memories she has made during rodeo.

Denton will continue her education at Cisco College, joining the CC Rodeo team for the next couple of years. She plans to study Applied Science and then transfer to Weatherford College to continue her studies to become a Diagnostic Radiologic/Ultrasound Technologist.
