Recent Albany High School graduate Addie Beth Denton will compete at the Texas High School Rodeo Finals scheduled for Sunday, June 6 to Saturday, June 12 at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

This will be Denton’s fourth year to qualify for the THSR state finals.

Texas is divided into 10 regions, and each region sends the top 10 individuals to the state competition in Abilene.

Competitors who land in the top four will advance to the National High School Rodeo finals held in Lincoln, Nebraska in July.

Denton has spent this past year competing in barrel racing, goat tying and breakaway roping.

The Albany cowgirl missed the first four rodeos of the season recovering from a broken hand suffered during a riding injury.

Despite her slow start, Denton was able to qualify for the Region III finals in goat tying and breakaway roping.

She was named goat tying champion at the region finals after winning second place in the first go around and first place in the second go around which made her the average winner of the weekend in the event.

Denton placed in the first round of the breakaway roping, but she missed her second calf.

The cowgirl will be competing on Friday, June 11 in Abilene in the goat tying event.

Denton has already signed a letter of intent to join the Cisco College Rodeo team in the fall of 2021.

She is the daughter of Myron and Dena Denton.
