Dementia support group meets monthly in Abilene

In February, the Alzheimer’s Association – North Central Texas Chapter launched meetings for a new caregiver support group in Abilene. 

The Memories Matter group meets the last Thursday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lyndale Abilene – Memory Care, located at 6568 Central Park Boulevard. The next meeting is set for May 30.   

The Alzheimer’s Association – North Central Texas Chapter sponsors numerous support groups in its 40-county service area, including several in Abilene. The Memories Matter group is free, and is open to caregivers, family members, and friends of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. 

Support group attendees share experiences and knowledge, listen to informative speakers, provide emotional support, and learn practical coping skills and strategies in matters relating to dementia – all in a confidential setting.

The Alzheimer’s Association – North Central Texas Chapter, which is affiliated with the national Alzheimer’s Association in Chicago, is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that covers a 40-county service area.
