The mums are getting made, and the streets are painted in preparation for Albany Homecoming 2020, an event that some felt might never get to happen.

The football game against Ranger is planned for this Friday, Oct. 16, with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Albany Junior/Senior High principal Glen Hill said with all the unknowns this school year, it is good to actually have the opportunity to celebrate Albany High School students.

“This is my first homecoming in Albany, and I know parts of homecoming will not be happening, but it is still great to see the community rally around the school,” Hill added. “This is just another example of how great a place Albany is.”

Prior to the game on Friday night, the homecoming pep rally will be held at 2:35 p.m. at the practice field (track).

Dress Up Days

Albany cheer sponsor Audrey Faith said the entire week will have themed dress-up days with Friday being “Flashback Friday.”

The secondary campus began the school week by wearing pajamas for ‘Put the Bulldogs to Sleep.’ Wednesday was ‘Color War Wednesday,’ and each class wore a different color. Today students can wear their favorite college or professional team shirt or jersey for ‘Tailgate Thursday.’

Nancy Smith Elementary School also has been joining in. Elementary students also had a ‘Color War Wednesday,” with each grade wearing a specific color and today the students can wear professional or college shirts or jerseys for ‘Tailgate Thursday.’

Friday will be ‘Super Fan Friday’ at NSES and all students are encouraged to wear lots of red and white for the Albany Lions.

 Homecoming Royalty

Friday night during halftime of the game at Robert Nail Memorial Stadium, the homecoming court will be escorted onto the field followed by the crowning of the homecoming king and queen.

Candidates selected by the senior class for King and Queen are Torie Fuentes and Wesley Estridge. Nominees named by the junior class are Alli Hill and Jackson Chapman, while the sophomores chose Hannah Trail and Barrett Beal. The freshman class candidates for king and queen are Carli Edgar and Ryder Wilkins.

All king and queen nominees are seniors, and the winners will be selected by the entire student body.

Princes and princesses were chosen for each of the other high school classes.

Junior honorees are Ana Balliew and Brooks Neece, while the sophomores elected are Brooke Kayga and Cole Chapman. Braylyn Abbate and Adam Hill are the royalty for the freshman class.

Other honorees selected include FFA Sweetheart Blanton Belcher and FFA Beau Brady Karl, Band Sweetheart Chey’Anne Weaver and Beau J.J. Clark, and Football Sweetheart Caitlan Lee, escorted by Jaheim Newton.
