Deadline set for Chest applications
By Donnie A. Lucas
Directors of the Albany Chest met on Wednesday, Sept. 1, to organize the 2021 fundraising drive, elect four board members, and vote on officers.
The deadline for organizations to turn in funding requests was set for Friday, Oct. 1, and the board’s next meeting will be held at The Feed Store on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 5:15 p.m. to evaluate the applications and decide on the fundraising target for the 2021 Chest drive.
Last year, a goal of $41,000 was set, with $52,550 raised and $51,000 distributed, with $2,660 left in the account for emergency needs.
Applications will be available this week at First National Bank, First Financial Bank, and The Albany News, or can be requested by email at news@thealbanynews.net.
Board Elections
Directors who have been on the board for two consecutive three-year terms cycle off according to the Chest by-laws. Three of the four board members whose terms ended this month, including Amy Kelly, Tisha Wilkins, and Mindy Skelton, have served six years.
Sara Wilson has only served one term and was elected to another three years, along with new directors Tracy Sullivan, Kristie Smith, and Kalico Leech.
Robert Dacus was elected to fill the remaining two years of a vacant seat.
Officer elections followed, with Jana Kitchens elected as chair, Melinda Lucas as vice chair and public relations officer, and Daivis Gallagher as secretary. Chris Beard will again serve as parliamentarian.
Paige Adair will continue in the role of treasurer as an appointed position.
Other directors include Austin Sherwood, Mike Bean, and Clint Chapman.
Funding Requests
A request form is required to apply for funding, and asks for the same information as in previous years.
Forms can be obtained at First National Bank, First Financial Bank, and The Albany News, or can be requested by email at news@thealbanynews.net.
All organizations wishing to receive an allocation from the Albany Chest must submit a written request to the Chest, Lucas said.
All request letters must be returned to Kitchens at First Financial, Adair at First National, or Lucas at the News office.
After all the requests have been reviewed at the next meeting, a goal will be set and the fundraising drive will get underway.
