The deadline to sign up for the Old Jail Art Center children’s summer workshops is tomorrow, July 9, in order  to have time for materials to be mailed.

This year, workshops are being held virtually for students in first through sixth grade.

The culture of India, a puppet workshop, and the frontier days will be covered by this year’s material.

Registrants will be mailed a kit with supplies and materials needed for each day of the camp.

The kits will also include a password for participants to access the camp video.

The video will be posted at 10:00 a.m. and will include step-by-step instructions for each craft presented by OJAC educators.

The Cultural Connections Camp, centered around India, is set for Aug. 3-5.

Students will learn about the culture, music, food, and art of India.

The Things on Strings: Puppet Workshop will begin on Aug. 10 and end Aug. 12.

Participants will design and construct their own puppets while guided by professional puppeteers.

The workshop is inspired by the art and artifacts from the OJAC collection.

Finally, on Aug. 17-19, Frontier Fort Kids will take place.

Students will explore life in a Texas fort during the 1800s with historical crafts and activities.

The workshops are limited to 30 students.

Children of OJAC members can participate free, but non-members cost $15 per camper.

Parents can register their children at theojac.org/summer-workshops or call the Old Jail Art Center at 325-762-2269 for questions and information.
