Day of Prayer slated today
By Sam Waller
Observance of the National Day of Prayer will be held at noon Thursday, May 4 (today) at the Bank Park.
The event is conducted by members of the Albany Ministerial Alliance.
The theme for this year’s event, chosen by the NDP task force, is “Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much,” based on James 5:16.
Brad McBee of First Christian Church said the local program will be much the same as past years.
The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”
The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer in 1775. President Abraham Lincoln called for a day of prayer in 1863 during the Civil War.
