Day of Prayer event planned today

Local observance of the National Day of Prayer will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, May 2 (today) at the Albany Labyrinth.

The event is sponsored by members of the Albany Ministerial Alliance, with Brad McBee coordinating this year’s prayer time.

The Labyrinth Located just east of the Old Jail Art Center, on Pecan St.

The theme for this year’s event, chosen by the NDP task force, is “Lift Up the Word – Light up the World,” based on 2 Samuel 22:29-31.

“All are invited to join us as we gather at the Albany Labyrinth at 6:00 p.m. for a time of deeply needed prayer for our world, our nation, our state, and our community,”McBee,pastor of Albany’s First Christian Church, said.

The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked “to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”

The first Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer in 1775. President Abraham Lincoln called for a day of prayer in 1863 during the Civil War.

The annual National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman. It invites people of all faith stop ray for the nation.
