Shackelford County Youth Livestock Association members met Tuesday, May 26 to discuss plans and elect officers for the 2020-2021 season.

After all members met together, the directors stayed to elect officers. Both meetings had been postponed due to -COVID-19 meeting restrictions.

“Not much changed from this year’s show,” said board president Bronco Askew. “The times and format will be the same as 2020. The only new business is an additional pig sale.”

Rule Changes and Show Dates

The SCYLA will kick off its season with a pig sale Sept. 12-13.

“The show will take place at the stock show barn and will again be a first impression show.” Askew said.

New this year is a second pig sale. The sale will  be held Oct. 3-4 at the stock show barn.

Askew added that the second pig show is by invitation only.

The annual stock show will take place Jan. 21-23.

Askew said the date changed in 2020 to allow a longer rest period between the county show and the Fort Worth stock show.

The 2021 show will start Thursday with the weigh in for swine, sheep, and goats.

Steers, heifers, rabbits, and chickens will weigh in on Friday.

Judging begins Friday with swine, followed by sheep and goats.

Steers and heifers will show first on Saturday,  followed by rabbits and chickens.

Like the 2019 and 2020 shows, there will not be a barbecue meal. Attendees are encouraged to purchase food and drinks from the concession stand.
