Moran High School senior Harley Schafer was recently named as one of the Lee’s Legion Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution 2020 DAR Good Citizen award winners.

Four area high schools were each invited to submit the name of one member of their senior class to Lee’s Legion for the honor.

The student should be one who has demonstrated the good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in his or her home, school, and community.

The Shackelford County student, along with the winners from Breckenridge and Cisco, were recognized at a ceremony at the Lord’s Old Time Gospel Church in Breckenridge on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Parents, friends and relatives were in attendance along with members of  the local chapter of the DAR.

Each of the winners read an essay they had submitted with their application.

Certificates, money, and DAR pins were presented to the three 2020 Good Citizen winners.

The DAR is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization whose members work to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism in their communities.
