Cub Scouts race at annual Pinewood Derby

The annual Albany Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby was held Monday at the Scout Hut, with Jonathan Key taking the overall winner’s spot.

Cubmaster Jacey Shack and Den Leader Dan Key organized the event, along with the assistance of committee chair Teri Lucas.

“All the kids did a great job building their cars,” Shack said. “After the official races, we all had some fun with the adults racing each other, and the Scouts got to challenge an adult to a race.”

A total of five Scouts raced in the Lion, Tiger, and Wolf Den races against each other, followed by the Bear and Webelos Dens competing.

Finally, the top winners in the dens raced to determine overall winners.

Jonathan Key was first place overall, followed by Matthew Key in second place. Dylan Lively was the third place winner overall.

The top three winners in the Lion, Tiger and Wolf Dens were Dylan Lively first, Abigail Key second, and Lennon Lucas third.

In the Bear and Webelos Dens, winners were Jonathan Key first, Matthew Key second, and Kayleigh Shack third.

Ribbons were awarded to all places, along with participation ribbons.

Shack said that the annual Blue and Gold Banquet is planned for Monday, Feb. 28 at 6:00 p.m. at the Scout Hut.
