Shackelford County commissioners have yet to see tax rate calculations so they can finalize their budget, but because county-wide values are up, they are optimistic about being able to offer a three to five percent across-the-board increase in employee salaries.

They saw new numbers at their Aug. 17 session showing the five percent increase, but no action was taken.

The commissioners, who will meet for the third Monday in a row on Aug. 22, hope to look at tax rate options at that time, then possibly propose both a budget and a tax rate before the end of the month.

Chris Ary with CM3 Services answered several questions from county officials concerning his bid to repair the Courthouse parking lot, and the county’s role in the demolition and removal of the current asphalt was defined.

Ary plans to have the project complete before early voting starts Oct. 24.
