A community play day has been planned for Saturday, April 8 starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Bank Park as a way to add some fun and “shenanigans” for area residents over the Easter weekend.

The Shackelford County Easter Spring Fling will feature goat roping, rookie breakaway for ages 12 and under, and team roping for all ages.

While having the names of traditional horse riding events, all of these contests will be held on foot.

There will also be a “Duck Cutting” contest for children age five and younger.

The entry fee is $10, with all of the proceeds going to the winners.

“This is something for everyone of all ages,” organizer Heather Nitschke said. “We just want people to come and have fun.”

Nitschke said that there are already several entries.

“We would love to have people pre-enter, but they can sign up on the day of the event,” she said.

The local 4-H club is also arranging for music at the event, while the FFA chapter will be providing the goats for the roping.

There will also be food trucks available, according to Nitschke.

Anyone interested in signing up for events or needing additional information can contact Heather Nitschke at 325-232-3303.
