County students attend health fair

Shackelford County ResourceCare hosted the 19th annual spring health fair at the Albany Bank Park last Friday, May 12.
ResourceCare program director Mindy Ary said children attended from Nancy Smith Elementary School and the Mother’s Day Out program.
“I would say close to 300 kids came through,” said Ary. “The children wiped us out of the prizes, snow cones, and popcorn.”
The health fair included representatives from local and area profit and nonprofit agencies including Shackelford County Hospital/EMS, Albany Volunteer Fire Department, Head Start, West Central TX ADRC, 211 A Call For Help, BCFS Health & Human Services, Abilene Recovery Council, Regional Crime Victims, and the Department of Family Protective Services.
ResourceCare had booths set up representing their counseling, dental, and outreach services.
“High school volunteers were a huge help, and we are very appreciative of the school allowing them to attend each year,” said Ary.
The high school students helped operate various activities, and although the sixth grade was gone on a field trip, the fifth grade had assigned buddies among the younger students.
