In the continuing effort to contain the spread of -COVID-19 coronavirus, the old adage of “no news is good news” definitely applies.

Shackelford County continues to hold the virus at bay with no new tests administered over the last week and only one positive case reported.

According to county judge Robert Skelton, the county continues to hold at 28 tests conducted locally with 28 negative results.

The county’s lone positive case, who was tested outside the county, has been released from the recommended home isolation about three weeks ago.

“We have had favorable updates the last couple of weeks about the virus,” Albany mayor Susan Montgomery said. “We encourage everyone to keep practicing safe measures and be good neighbors.”

The mayor said that people should continue to be diligent to wear face covering and practice social distancing.

“For the most part, Albany has done a fantastic job of complying with the governor’s recommendations, and we need to keep doing what we’re doing in order to maintain these good results,” she said.

The mayor said that she is waiting to hear what the next step is when the governor holds his next press conference on Monday, June 8.

“We had Little League start back up this week, and water parks and venues are now able to open with limited capacity,” Montgomery said. “I really want to thank all those who have been responsible and obeyed the governor’s plan.”

Currently, Albany businesses are open, although some, such as restaurants, have occupancy limits in place.

“The city is working on a plan to consider opening the city pool,” the mayor said. “We will be discussing that at the next council meeting on Monday.”

She noted that several area cities have opted to keep their pools closed for the summer.
