Shackelford County commissioners are expected to propose both a budget and a tax rate at their regular meeting on Monday, Sept. 8.

According to county judge Robert Skelton, the proposed tax rate will then be advertised, with the budget hearing more than likely set to coincide with the regular Sept. 28 commissioners meeting.

The proposed budget, which covers a fiscal year from Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021, will also be placed on the county website and will be available in the county clerk’s office for public review.

The elected officials continued to hammer out the 2020-2021 budget during a workshop following a few regular agenda items in a special session on Monday afternoon, Aug. 31.

Time Clock

The only action item on Monday’s agenda was the purchase of a time clock from TimeClock Plus for use by personnel at the Courthouse and Law Enforcement Center.

The new system, with a cost of $9,000, will provide accurate, real time information for payroll and will replace the handwritten time sheets currently used, according to Skelton.

County treasurer Tammy Brown said the funding can be taken from her budget during fiscal year 2020.
