Among topics discussed Tuesday, April 11 at the Shackelford Youth and Livestock Association annual meeting was the creation of a Shackelford County Horse Show.

Shackelford County extension agent said the inaugural event, which will be open to 4-H and FFA members, will be Saturday, May 6 at the Fikes Arena.

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to grow this,” Bell said. “I don’t know if it will be anywhere near what the stock show is, but I do want people to know that’s a full county show for 4-H and FFA members.”

Bell said competition will be held in stock horse, speed events, English, and halter classes.

“We’re looking for buckle sponsors,” she said. “We need three more.”

4-H News

A handful of Shackelford County 4-H members will participate in the Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Extravaganza on Saturday, April 15 at the Texas 4-H Conference Center at Lake Brownwood.

“We have several kids competing in that,” Bell said. “There will be some outdoor contests as well.”

The next big event for local 4-Hers is the District 7 Roundup on Friday, April 28 at San Angelo.

“We have several entered in that,” Bell said.
