The Shackelford County 4-H will host a County Food Show on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church.

Shackelford County extension agent and 4-H club coordinator Kloey Painter said any students who plan to participate in the District Food Show on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Abilene need to qualify first at the county show.

“We are allowed to bring four kids from each age division to compete at the district show,” Painter explained. “The county show will determine which kids will advance. This is a good problem to have and means our 4-H program has grown.”

Painter said four juniors, four intermediates, and four seniors will move on to the district show out of those who compete in the county show.

“This gives every single kid in our county a chance to compete and participate,” Painter added.

The county contest will follow the same judging criteria and rules as the district show.

Painter said the dishes must be pre-prepared, and every participant will make a presentation to the judges about their prepared dish.

Participants will be tested on a skill, and then they will be quizzed on food and nutrition facts.

Painter said the participants must be 4-H members to enter the show.
