Calf Scramble

Eight local youth participated in the calf scramble at the rodeo last Wednesday, and two Shackelford County youth were able to win certificates that can be used toward the purchase of any animal that can be shown at the 2020 fair.

On Wednesday night, Sept. 11, 10 calves were turned loose in the arena with 25 4-H and FFA contestants. The youth had to catch, halter, and lead a calf to the designated area to win.

Winners received certificate money in amounts from $870 for first place to $315 for 10th place.

Bryce Asher placed fifth and Isaiah Carrillo came in ninth.

“We were well represented in the calf scramble,” said ag instructor Chris Beard.

Also participating in the calf scramble on Wednesday were Elizabeth Chavez, Tye Edgar, Taren Farmer, Pepper Martin, Donald McCullough, and Cole Read.
