County budget changes okayed

Shackelford County commissioners met for about 30 minutes Monday morning, okaying several budget adjustments so county treasurer Tammy Brown could begin to close out the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30.

She stated that there were only a couple of areas that couldn’t be adjusted within that department’s budget.

Not enough was budgeted for utilities at the county library, Brown said, with the overage taken from the non-departmental budget.

“The sheriff’s office was over on several line items, but we pulled enough from the LEC budget to compensate so it all came from the sheriff’s two budgets,” said the treasurer.

Brown also presented the August and September treasurer’s reports, commenting that the problems with the accounting software update had been resolved. Both reports were approved.

Minor Flooding

Sheriff Ed Miller reported that there had been several accidents due to water on the road, some in conjunction with the asphalt “erosion” on area highways.

There had also been some minor county road flooding, but nothing major, according to commissioners, although Pct. 2 commissioner Larry Cauble wasn’t present.

Reportedly, the Clear Fork River in northern Shackelford County crested at 37.4 feet at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, with several county roads affected. Flood stage is 35.0 feet.

County extension agent Michaela Bradford asked that commissioners help her complete agriculture site assessments requested by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
