A Shackelford County 4-Her brought home big prizes last week from the Texas 4-H State Roundup in College Station.

Johnnie Hise placed second in the Fashion Show on Tuesday, June 7, while the horse judging team placed ninth overall with team member Faith Fry earning two individual ribbons on Wednesday, June 8.

Hise’s fashion project was a vintage swimsuit ensemble which included a beach robe and wraparound skirt.

“I’m super proud of Johnnie,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “She did an amazing job. I’m so happy for her.”

The horse judging team was made up of Fry, Riley Reames, Jordan Fikes, and Madailein Beard. Fry placed fifth in halter and eighth in the overall standings.

“The horse judging team really surprised me,” Bell said. “For three of the four, it was their first year ever doing this. To get top 10 as a team was pretty cool.”

On Tuesday, June 14, four local 4-Hers competed in the District 7 horse show. Results will be reported next week.
