Shackelford County 4-H held its first club meeting of the year Monday, Oct. 3 at The Feed Store, electing officers and kicking off National 4-H Week.

Senior officers are Faith Fry, president; Riley Reames, vice president; Leddie Leech, second vice president; Landon Kreitler, third vice president; Grace Fry, secretary; Connor Smith, treasurer; Maddy Beard, reporter; and Jordan Fikes, parliamentarian.

Junior officers are Artie Bell, president; Gage Burton, vice president; Luke Smith, second vice president; Cody Fry, third vice president; Carly Kreitler, secretary; Truitt Burton, treasurer; Willa Early, reporter, and Rainy Nitschke, parliamentarian.

“Immediately following the elections, we had our advisory board meeting and laid out the year mainly with regard to our community service projects,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “We discussed who would be doing what, when we would have our regular meetings, and a few other items.”

Faith Fry also held the first horse club meeting.

“She went over all the different opportunities in 4-H for kids who are interested in horses,” Bell said.

Club members have spent National 4-H Week (Oct. 3-7) participating in theme days.

“I thought that might be a fun way to observe National 4-H Week,” Bell said. “Also, the kids are planning some community service for the month of October that they can do on their own.”

On Saturday, Oct. 8, horse club members will participate in a playday at Baird with 4-Hers from Callahan and Coleman counties.
