County 4-H, FFA members place at major shows

Albany FFA and Shackelford County 4-H members spent last week competing at both the San Angelo and San Antonio livestock shows.

This week, local students were busy showing barrows at San Angelo.

At San Antonio, Shackelford County 4-H had three teams competing in horse judging. Grace Fry was the third high individual in the junior division, while the junior team of Grace Fry, Artie Bell, Cody Fry, and Rainy Nitschke finished sixth.

Madailein Beard and Riley Reames joined Faith Fry on the senior team. A second junior team of Carly Kreitler, Kerrigan Howard, and Reese Nitschke also competed.

In the San Antonio gilt show, FFA members Madeline and Hadley Stapp and Carter and Cooper Carrion participated before heading to San Angelo.

“Albany FFA was well represented in the San Angelo Stock Show gilt and heifer shows,” Albany FFA adviser Chris Beard said. “We had 13 pig exhibitors and two heifers entered. Congratulations to all of them for their hard work and dedication to their projects.”

At San Angelo, Kenzie Neve placed ninth with a Heavyweight British Shorthorn Steer.

In the San Angelo heifer show, Gracie Price placed second with her Maine Anjou, while Myleigh Leveridge placed fourth with a Shorthorn.

In the San Angelo gilt show, Madeline Stapp placed sixth in the Stars Pure Bred Show with her Landrace and seventh in the Pure Bred Show with a Yorkshire.

Carter Carrion placed seventh in the Stars Pure Bred Show with his Spot.

Other gilt exhibitors were Tye Edgar, Layton Cehand, Paige Price, Cooper Carrion, Averie Burns, Donald McCullough, Jayden Kelly, Judson Rogers, Hadley Stapp, Emily Schedule, and Ciera Turner.

Moran FFA had three students participate in the San Angelo Show. Cotten Campbell showed a gilt, while Allen Hebel and Ellis Hise were entered in the barrow show.
