The Bank Park should be full of competitors and spectators starting about noon this Sunday, March 26, with a fundraiser event planned in the downtown venue.
AZE’s third annual Scholarship Cornhole Tournament, which includes an amateur just-for-fun bracket in addition to a sanctioned division, is expected to draw a good number of teams from around the area, with the proceeds used for scholarships.
“Last year, we gave six scholarships to totaling $2,500 Moran and Albany students,” said Alpha Zeta Epsilon secretary Megaen Birdwell. “We hope to exceed that amount.”
Four food trucks have committed to be present for the day, and everyone is invited to come enter or just watch.
“We will have tables and chairs out so people can sit and eat,” said AZE member Michelle Alexander. “Vendors will serve will hamburgers, barbecue, street tacos, and Cajun food.”
Food trucks include Happy Grill, BS Cookers, West Texas Cajun, and Melissa’s Cooking for a Cause.
Alexander added that there will be live music by Lonesome Fugitive and several raffles, including a 65-inch big screen TV.
“Anyone can buy raffle tickets, and you don’t have to be present to win,” Birdwell said.
To enter the cornhole competition in advance, contact Mary Boland at 325-762-0306 or other AZE members, which include Shana Loftis, Tammie Burns, Lori Alexander, Dena Denton, Breanne Jones, Josie Taylor, and Kathy Thompson, as well as Birdwell and Alexander.
Alexander said that most teams enter the day of, and advance registration is not required.
There will be cash prizes for the top three teams.
Check-in starts at 11:00 a.m. with “bags flying” by 1:00 p.m. Entry fee is $50 per team.
“It’s always a fun day!” Birdwell said. “And we are grateful for the opportunity to throw this event and support our community and graduating seniors.”
