There will be plenty to do this Saturday, Oct. 23 at Webb Park for folks attending the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s Home of the Hereford Cookoff and Cornhole Tournament.

Cookoff categories start with dutch oven bread at 10:00 a.m. and continue with a turn-in time every hour or so with desserts, fish, vegetables, chicken, wild game, pork, and beef. Awards will be presented about 7:15 p.m.

For more information and rules or to sign up, call the Chamber office at 325-762-2525.

While waiting for the cookoff judging, attendees can compete in the cornhole tournament with a chance to win cash prizes.

Entry fee is $25 per person with entries accepted until 11:00 a.m. and the competition starting at 12:00 noon.

“We’re going to have a lot of fun,” Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said. “Just come before 11:00 and sign up.”

Jones said only two-person team competition will be held.

“Even if you don’t have a team, come on and they will find you a teammate,” she said.

The prize payout will be $200 for first place, $150 for second, and $100 for third.

Jones said the event, which will raise money for new decorations the Chamber puts up throughout Albany, is already a success.

“We want to thank all our sponsors who made this possible,” she said. “Regardless of how many show up, we already have winners because our decorations are paid for.”

In addition to the cookoff and cornhole contest, the event will include a number of other attractions. The fire department’s bounce house will be available for children, and John Caldwell and Friends will perform after the awards are given, staring about 8:00 p.m..

A concession stand will sell pulled pork sandwiches and nachos. Meals including a sandwich and chips will be available for $5.
