The fourth annual Fort Griffin BBQ Cook-Off will take place in downtown Albany on the weekend of Sept. 28-29, and at least 15 teams have already sent in their entry fee of $150 each to join in the Battle for the Blade.

“We gave away $150 each to two teams that were registered before our first drawing on Aug. 2,” said organizer Justin Winters. “We have another drawing coming up for teams that enter early. We’ll be giving $100 cash to two pre-registered teams in the near future.”

Information on prize drawings is updated regularly on the group’s Facebook page, fortgriffinbbq cookoff.

Michael Whitmore of Serendipity Studio forged a trophy knife for the winning team again this year, and prize money will also be awarded to winners in three meat categories: Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, and Chicken Halves.

Bonus contests can be entered for $20 each, and are Steak, Bloody Mary, Dove, and Beans.

The Battle for the Blade is sponsored by the First National Bank of Albany/Breckenridge and Lone Star Ag Credit.

Steaks will be judged on Friday, Sept. 28, at 8:00 p.m., while winners in all other categories will be selected on Saturday, Sept. 29.
