Garage clutter, unused dishes, cast aside and outgrown clothing and shoes, and assorted knick knacks scattered around the house collecting dust could soon be turned into cash money and become someone else’s recycled treasures during the Albany Chamber of Commerce annual garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Signups to be included in the event will take place during normal Chamber hours from Tuesday, Sept. 11, through Thursday, Sept. 13.

The Depot is typically open Tuesday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The signup fee to register a garage sale, be included on the map, and issued a sign number is $25.

“We are not doing early signups this year,” said office manager Mary Beth Jones. “Signups will take place the week of the sale.”

Maps of the sale locations will be made on the morning of Friday, Sept. 14, and will be available for pickup at the Chamber office in the Depot from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. that afternoon and on the sale day, Saturday, Sept. 15. The map will also be posted online at the Chamber’s Facebook page.

The yard signs should be returned to the Chamber office on Tuesday, Sept. 18 or Wednesday, Sept. 19 during regular hours of 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Ten dollars of the signup fee will be returned upon request, when returning the sign,” said Jones. “Or the money can be donated to the Chamber.”

In addition to coordinating the city-wide garage sale, this year the Chamber will also be actively participating, according to Jones.

“The Chamber will be having its own garage sale at the Depot,” she said. “If anyone has items they wish to donate to our sale, please bring them by Sept. 11-14. If people have some things they do not need, but do not want to go to the trouble of having a sale of their own, we will gladly sell them and use the proceeds to help the businesses of Albany.”

The Chamber garage sale will end at 2:00 p.m., but the other garage sales may close at different times, Jones added.
