Community garage sale planned Sept. 9

After weeks of planning, it’s time for the Albany Chamber of Commerce’s community-wide garage sale to be held Saturday, Sept. 9 at locations around town.

Chamber manager Brandi Lehew said she was still fielding inquiries earlier this week as the registration deadline neared.

“We had about 16 as of Tuesday, but I had people call me to say they planned to make it by the office to sign up before the deadline,” Lehew said. “We may get close to 20, which is not too far off of last year.”

Maps of participating locations will be available at the Chamber office at 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Participants will also have yard signs proclaiming their involvement.

Lehew said the heat wave that has blanketed Albany all summer led some past participants to bypass this year’s event.

“A lot of people who have participated in the past cited the heat for not being able to clean out garages or sheds like they normally would like to,” she said. “I think we did really well for the heat being a factor.”

Fall Decorations

Next on the Chamber calendar is putting up fall decorations on Saturday, Sept. 30 in advance of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“We got the decorations out of storage, and we’ll see what else we need,” Lehew said.

Albany High School’s FCCLA classes will assist, but Lehew said more volunteers will be welcomed.
