Community cleanup set Saturday

By Sam Waller

The Albany Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual spring cleanup day Saturday, June 11 in advance of the Fort Griffin Fandangle.

“This is the time of year when everybody tries to make their yards along Main Street look good,” Chamber manager Mary Beth Jones said.

Jones said volunteers should meet at the Chamber office at 8:30 a.m., and she asked that participants bring yard tools and implements such as mowers, weedeaters, rakes, and hoes.

“I’ve had several people say they’ll be here ready to go,” Jones said. “Some have already mowed some around town. Anyone who wants to come is welcome.”

The event offers an opportunity for people needing to accumulate volunteer hours to do so.

Jones said work will be conducted all over town with a focus on the downtown area.

Lunch will be provided for volunteers.

“We’ll have coupons for Happy Grill for anyone who puts in a few hours,” Jones said. “They’ll get a burger meal at Happy Grill good for that day only, provided by First National Bank.”

Citizens who need assistance from volunteers should contact the Chamber office at 325-762-2525 to request help.

Chamber Lunches

Jones said the weekly Chamber lunch will be held Friday, June 10 at the Beehive, but will be on hiatus the following two weeks during the Fandangle.

“The two Fridays of Fandangle, we encourage everybody to go downtown and eat,” she said. “There’ll be barbecue sandwich meals at the Bank Park. We encourage everybody to get out and support that for those two Fridays.”
