A community-wide clean-up day, an annual promotion of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Saturday, June 11.

“We need all the help we can get,” Chamber manager Mary Beth said. “Just come on out and help us make Albany look good. If you come and put in a good amount of work for us, we’ll make sure you get something for lunch.”

All area citizens are encouraged to show up that day and work on projects aimed at beautifying Albany. The event offers an opportunity for those needing to accumulate volunteer hours to do so.

Jones said volunteers should meet at the Chamber office at 8:30 a.m., and she asked that participants bring yard tools and implements.

“We’ll have trash bags,” she said, “but bring hoes, rakes, gloves, mowers, weedeaters, whatever you think you you might need.”

Jones said work is planned for all over town.

“We’ll be cleaning up the flower beds at the Chamber office,” she said. “We’ll clean up the creeks and work Main Street and Cook Field Road all the way out to the Fandangle grounds.”

Jones said the more who volunteer, the earlier the work will be finished.

“It’s just a matter of how much work needs to be done and how many people show up,” she said. “The more people, the faster it goes.”

Citizens who need assistance from volunteers should contact the Chamber office at 325-762-2525 to request help.
