Commodities to be distributed Oct. 6-7
By Melinda L. Lucas
Pick-up dates for the October distribution of the commodity food program will be Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7, with no restrictions.
Shackelford County Justice of the Peace James Breeden, who oversees the program, said that if October commodities are not picked up, those individuals will not be eligible for the Thanksgiving bag in November.
The Thanksgiving bag is in addition to the regular November commodities.
Recipients who are unable to pick up their commodities in person can send a signed and dated note with someone to pick up the food for them.
On Thursday, Oct. 6, certified eligible families in Moran should pick up their monthly commodity food at the Moran City Hall between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
Albany families who have been certified eligible for the October food distribution program can pick up their commodity food on Friday, Oct. 7 at the back door of the Justice of the Peace office from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Change in Schedule
Breeden said this week that the November commodity delivery will be the first Thursday and Friday of the month, Nov. 3-4, as usual.
However, there will be a week’s delay for the December pick-up dates. Because Breeden is scheduled to attend training the week before, commodities will be available on Dec. 8-9.
Application forms for 2023 will be placed in the December bags, Breeden said.
The commodity supplemental food program (CSFP) is federally funded and works to improve the health of low-income and elderly people at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA commodity foods.
