Commissioners propose subdivision regulations

Shackelford County commissioners got serious about implementing formal regulations for subdivisions in unincorporated portions of the county, setting a date for a public hearing with plans to adopt the proposed regulations immediately after the hearing.

The document, presented at a previous meeting by county attorney Rollin Rauschl, is adapted from Stephens County regulations and will give commissioners more control over water, sewer, and roads within subdivisions.

The public hearing will be held at 8:45 a.m. in the courtroom on Monday, March 28 prior to the next regular commissioners meeting.

In a related issue, the commissioners asked county judge Robert Skelton to put together a resolution for the next meeting concerning installation of driveway culverts on county roads at the owners’ expense.

Courthouse Cleaning

Because county employee Sherry Garvin is gone on medical leave, the commissioners decided to employ Touch of Magic cleaning service as a temporary option to keep the Courthouse clean.

The company owner will attempt to hire 2 local people to work four hours a day, three days a week.

Separately, county officials plan to have the Courthouse rugs cleaned and look at a different company to clean and oil the 60+ wooden shutters.

Landscaping Plans

County workers were aided by Albany High School ag classes the previous week in clearing out freeze-damaged shrubs along the front sidewalk.

A resolution of appreciation was passed at Monday’s meeting to thank AISD superintendent Jonathan Scott and ag teacher Chris Beard for their help.

The commissioners plan to consult a specialist on what to use for replacement plants in all the beds, possibly using donated funds for the project.

Other Business

•An election was ordered for May 7.

•A maintenance agreement with Mike Tschaar was signed for the library.

•Permission was given to use the courtroom for the Republican county convention on March 26.
