Closet Angels closes temporarily

While winter seems to have officially hit the Big Country area and the post-holiday COVID surge continues, many people are finding themselves in need of basic items of clothing and furniture.

Albany is fortunate to have Closet Angels and Neighbors in Need to help  local residents when they need a helping hand.

Unfortunately, both of these organizations and their volunteers also are affected by the weather and COVID.

Closet Angels director Lori Reames said that the COVID surge is again preventing the ministry from accepting donations.

“We have decided not to accept or process any donations for the next two weeks in hopes that COVID will die down after the holidays,” said Reames. “Our tentative date to begin accepting donations is Jan. 25, unless COVID hasn’t improved or there is a worse surge in the community.”

The blue donation bin by Closet Angels has been taped closed to prevent any donations during this time.

Closet Angels also is closed to shoppers, but Reames is working to fill any needs that come to her attention.

“If someone has a wish list or particular needs, they can call or text me and give me their information,” Reames said. “Mondays and Wednesdays are the best days for me to fill orders, so I would encourage anyone who needs something to contact me on one of those days.”

Neighbors in Need, which provides furniture and household items, also is temporarily closed until Jan. 25.

Reames said that both ministries need more volunteers when they reopen.

“We especially need people who can move or haul furniture,” said Reames. “We have one individual who is trying to do this alone, and we simply need more help.”

Reames said people can contact her for either Closet Angels or Neighbors in Need and she will make arrangements for assistance. Reames also is making tentative appointments for shoppers on Jan. 25.
