Classic cars draw large crowds to 2023 show

Perfect spring weather along with a number of new entries brought out spectators and vintage car and truck owners to downtown Albany last Saturday for the 16th annual Albany Classic Car Show.

Organizer Robert Snyder reported that 70 vehicles were entered in the show, down a little from last year’s  numbers due to conflicts with other shows in the area.

“The number of entries was down this year from the 90 here last year, but it was still a great show with several new entries people hadn’t seen before,” Snyder said. “There was also a big turnout on Friday for the burnout at the Bank Park and hamburger supper at the Flying A Car Museum.”

The show kicked off at 8:00 a.m. and was open to exhibitors of classic and antique vehicles, hot rods, customs, and trucks, each receiving a goodie bag from sponsor Eagle Auto Parts while they lasted.

“I really am appreciative of all the support we received, especially from First National Bank, our financial sponsor, and Eagle Auto Parts, who has continued to donate goodie bags and door prizes over the years,” Snyder said. “I also had a lot of help from friends and our car show crew who all showed up. It takes a lot of people to handle registration, parking, and judging, and we couldn’t have this show without them.”

Several food vendors were also present to provide food and drink opportunities to the crowd of people.

Snyder thanked the Albany Volunteer Fire Department for helping with the burnout by hosing down the street between participants, as well as being present for the show on Saturday.

Snyder said that a hamburger fundraiser on Friday evening at the car museum raised about $350 to help offset some of the $2,000 to $3,000 in expenses to host the show.

A 50/50 fundraiser was held on Saturday among entrants in the show with proceeds going to Albany resident Adalyn Kirby, age 5, who is undergoing cancer treatment.

“We raised enough to give her $225, but then the person who won the 50/50 donated back his 50 percent, so when it was all over we were able to give her about $450.”

Complete results of the car show are as follows:
